Bhutan Tour Overview

Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is a tiny Himalayan kingdom that still restricts the number of travelers it allows inside its borders each year. A travel agency is required for all visitors going to Bhutan. In this mysterious nation, you won't find backpackers. Drukair/Bhutan Air offers flights to Bhutan from Kathmandu. There are many monasteries to visit because Bhutan is a Buddhist nation. The wearing of the national dress is required of all Bhutanese citizens, and it is illegal to buy or sell tobacco products in public places.
Bhutan Tour Package

This Himalayan kingdom conducts operations differently. Bhutan has welcomed visitors for 45 years while putting its environment, culture, and well-being ahead of business interests. Trekkers, wildlife lovers, and Buddhist pilgrims will all appreciate a trip to Bhutan. From the mind-blowing Tiger's Nest (Paro's Taktsang monastery) to the prayer halls of Gangte Gompa, you'll come across moments - and people - that make happiness feel like the norm, not a goal.

The Tiger's Nest, which is actually a monastery constructed on solid rock, is one of the most significant sites to see on a cultural tour of Bhutan. Some of the fascinating events to keep an eye out for in the nation include masked dances and archery festivals. Bhutan is attempting to strike a balance between tradition and modernity, allowing for the limitations on the number of tourists who are permitted to travel there.

Best Time To Travel Bhutan

The ideal times to visit Nepal and Bhutan are in the spring (March to May), autumn (September to November), and early winter (December). Days during these months are the perfect temperature—neither too hot nor too cold. In Autumn and the beginning of Winter, it could be a little chilly in the mornings and evenings.

    Detailed Itinerary

Day 1. Fly to Bhutan – Paro, Drive to Thimpu – Overnight at hotel (B, L, D)

Upon your arrival in Paro, proceed through immigration and customs. Make sure to have a copy of your visa clearance letter with you, as passport-size photos are no longer required, and your visa fee has already been covered.

Once you've cleared the process, meet your guide and driver outside the terminal building. From there, you’ll be transferred to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, which could be the only city without a traffic light and trains in the world. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing stroll through the city.

If time permits, Visit the Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress and monastery that houses the King’s Throne Room, the Secretariat, and other government offices. You can also explore the Handicrafts Emporium, located in the main town and run by the National Women’s Association of Bhutan. It’s a one-stop souvenir shop offering a wide range of Bhutanese handicrafts and handwoven traditional Bhutanese attire. End your day with an overnight stay at the hotel, preparing for the next day’s adventures.

Note: Drive from Paro – Thimpu: 2hours – Distance: 55 km
The Tashichho Dzong is open for tourists from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM on weekdays and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekends. Tour guide will accompany you for visiting the Dzong.

Day 2. Explore Thimphu – Afternoon drive to Punakha – Overnight at hotel (B, L, D)

Explore the highlights of Thimphu Valley before your afternoon transfer to Punakha. If you haven’t had the time to visit the Tashichho Dzong, you can do so today. Along with that, you can visit the National Library, home to a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. Continue to the Arts & Crafts School, known for traditional thangka paintings, where you can observe students crafting intricate designs on cloth. Then, head to the Textile and Folk Heritage Museums for a glimpse into Bhutanese material culture and traditions. After lunch, visit the Handicrafts Emporium, known for its extensive collection of skillfully hand-woven and crafted items.

In the afternoon, drive to Punakha, crossing the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100 m). En route to Punakha, you’ll pass the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa dedicated to Bhutan’s Third King, the “Father of Modern Bhutan. It is the most visited landmark in Thimphu. You will be staying the night at Punakha’s Hotel.

Note: Drive from Thimphu – Punakha: 3hours – Distance: 75 km

Day 3. Drive from Punakha to Paro – Overnight at hotel (B, L, D)

After breakfast, retrace your journey back to Paro. If you’re interested, we can arrange an early river rafting experience in Punakha, adding an adventurous touch to your day.

Once you arrive in Paro, you’ll have some leisure time to explore the local market or visit a farmhouse to get a taste of authentic Bhutanese life. At the farmhouse, you can enjoy a Traditional Mask Dance and Cultural Show, experience a Traditional Bhutanese Hot Stone Bath, or even try Archery, Bhutan’s national sport. These activities can be arranged upon prior request.

Note: If your travel dates coincide with any of Bhutan’s major festivals—such as the Paro Tshechu Festival (April), Punakha Tshechu Festival (March), Bhutan Rhododendron Festival (April), Thimphu Tshechu Festival (October), or the Black-Necked Crane Festival (November)—we can arrange a visit, adding a vibrant festival to your itinerary.

    Day 4. Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery and more (B, L, D)

Today’s highlight is a visit to Bhutan’s most iconic landmark, the Paro Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this sacred site on the back of a tigress and meditated in the caves. The trek to the monastery, which takes approximately five-six hours’ round trip, is a rewarding journey that offers stunning views of the Paro Valley and surrounding mountains. Perched dramatically on a cliffside 3,000 meters above the valley, this revered monastery is an unforgettable sight and a true symbol of Bhutan’s spiritual heritage.

In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, Bhutan's National Museum. Originally built as a watchtower, it was converted into a museum in 1967 and features an impressive collection of art, artifacts, thangka paintings, and Bhutan’s unique postage stamps.

Afterward, take a short walk to Rinpung Dzong, a striking example of traditional Bhutanese architecture with a fascinating history. The dzong offers an excellent glimpse into Bhutan’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

Day 5. Depart Paro to Kathmandu – Overnight at hotel

Today, you'll depart Paro and fly back to Kathmandu. Alternatively, if there’s a direct flight available from Paro to your next destination via Nepal or India, you can opt for that. For those returning to Kathmandu, your stay for the night will/can be at the luxurious Dwarika’s Hotel (optional), where you can relax and unwind.

If you want to extend your stay at Nepal, that could be arranged with prior information.
