Trip Details

Spiritual Encounters in an Ancient Buddhist Kingdom

Lower Mustang Trekking involves rising in and out of the huge Kali Gandaki Valley while crossing high-altitude desert terrain. The gorge through which the Kali Gandaki River flows is the deepest in the world in some areas. This area is home to some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Nepal as well as centuries-old, remote villages with charming whitewashed buildings.

You can hike to lower Mustang without a Mustang Restricted Permit because the hikes are short, scenic, and easy and on the lower area. The area passes via Nepal's oldest monastery, largest protected area for wildlife- ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit), and diverse population. The journey to Jomsom, through Pokhara, is the first section of the trek to Lower Mustang.
