From Mountains
to Jungles

The two week mountain to jungle trip is perfect for a first time visit to Nepal. We will take care of all logistics from transfers and hotel bookings to adventure activities to enjoy in Nepal such as trekking, rafting and jungle safaris. You can enjoy the major destination of Nepal in a care-free way.

The trip starts and ends in Kathmandu, where we make sure that your stay is spent comfortably at the best hotels with plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, or simple relaxation.

From Kathmandu we fly west to Pokhara, Nepal’s “adventure capital”. This is where you meet your trekking team, who will take you safely and comfortably on a five day trek through the rhododendron forests of the Annapurnas. This is a low-altitude trek, perfect for beginners and families.

Terai land during the Jungle trekking in Nepal

From the trek we continue our venture by raft down the beautiful Seti River. Again, this is an easy rafting trip, which is safe and fun for first-time rafters and children. We enjoy the night camping in nature.

Finally, we reach the southern plains in Nepal, the Terai, where a true jungle adventure awaits. We spend a whole day with elephants and another full day inside the jungle. Join the elephant herd as they walk through the forest and cool down in the river and help the mahouts prepare their fodder. Tiger Tops offers a unique and ethical elephant experience, where activities are based on the elephants’ needs.

Inside Chitwan National Park, we explore nature in the comfort and convenience of one of our classic vintage Land Rovers and from our quiet non-motorized wooden boats.

After all the adventures it’s time to head back to the city in time to reach your international flight.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to Dwarika’s – Overnight at Hotel

When you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu, our staff will greet you and assist your transfer to Dwarikas Hotel Rooms and Suites – dwarika ( - an exquisite 5 star oasis in the heart of the bustling city. We can also arrange other similar hotels for your stay.

During the afternoon we are happy to arrange guided tours for those wanting to wander the city and discover the enthralling sights of the capital.

Day 2: Mountain Flight tour - Half day sightseeing – Overnight at hotel

The day's adventure kicks off with an early morning mountain flight (packed breakfast will be arranged), offering to take you on a scenic flight over the majestic Himalayas with breathtaking views of some of the world's highest peaks including Mount Everest. Our staff will ensure you have a smooth start, arranging transportation to the airport and assisting you throughout the day.

Following the mountain flight, your tour guide will take you on a half day sightseeing tour at Boudhanath and Swoyambhunath. Boudhanath features an impressive Buddhist stupa, renowned as one of the largest in the world and highly revered by Buddhists. This iconic site is encircled by numerous Tibetan Buddhist monasteries representing diverse sects, creating a spiritual and cultural hub in Kathmandu. We'll take a break for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Next on your itinerary is Swayambhunath, affectionately known as the 'Monkey Temple.' This ancient shrine, with a history spanning over 2500 years, rests atop a hill and offers a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley. The centerpiece of Swayambhunath is the Buddha's compassionate eyes, symbolizing wisdom and unity, which overlook the valley. After our day's adventures, we'll return to our hotel for the night.

Note: Mountain Flight is a 1-hr flight; Airport – Boudhanath: 30 mins drive; Boudhanath – Swyambunath: 1 hr drive.

Day 3: Fly to Pokhara and drive to Nayapul and start trek to Birethati

After breakfast, we take a 25-minute morning flight to Pokhara. On a clear day you can watch the Annapurna Ranges unfold before you from the airplane.

We transfer by road with guides and porters to our trek start point. We begin the trek gently, with a fairly short hike into the valley. The trail passes through small hamlets, terraced rice fields and forests with spectacular views of the surrounding valley. We end the day in Birethanti, where we may enjoy the lodge's happy hour before dinner.

Day 4: Trek to Ghandruk

After breakfast, we start our trek from Birethani, walking upwards towards Ghandruk. We will encounter a checkpoint where authorities will verify our ACAP and TIMS cards. MTN staff will handle all the paper works so that you would not have to worry about it. Along the way, we will pass through several villages and cross numerous suspension bridges, adding to the sense of adventure. We will take breaks at various points to relax and capture photos of the stunning Annapurna ranges.

Once we reach Ghandruk, we will have lunch at the teahouse and then explore the fascinating village. Ghandruk is home to a Gurung museum and provides stunning views of Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. We return back at the teahouse for the night.

Note: Ghandruk (1940m), time taken: 4 hrs

Day 5: Trek to Landruk

After breakfast, we'll start our journey to Landruk, another village in the Annapurna region. Landruk is quieter and less developed than other places we've visited. Brace yourself for a steep descent to the banks of the Modi River. Along the way, expect a variety of terrain, mix of easy stretches, rocky parts, and some steep climbs.

Upon reaching Landruk, we'll have our lunch at one of the teahouses. Later in the evening, we can explore the village, taking in its charm and tranquil surroundings until dinner time.

Note: Landruk (1565m), Time taken: 5 hrs

Day 6: Trek to Majgaon

Following breakfast, we'll begin our descent towards Majgaon. The trek will be relatively easy as we make our way downhill. The trail will lead us through picturesque paddy fields, with lush forests along the trails, creating a tranquil trek. Upon reaching Majgaon, we'll once again enjoy lunch at one of the local teahouses, savoring the final stretch of our trekking adventure.

Note: Majgaon (1400m), Time taken: 4 hrs

Day 7: Trek and drive to Pokhara

Following breakfast, we descend through forest and terraced farmland. This day is a very short trekking day, just one and a half hour, and we then transfer by vehicle to the hotel in Pokhara (40 minutes).

Day 8: Drive from Pokhara and white river rafting at Seti River

Today, we embark on a two day river rafting adventure on the Seti River. The Seti River is classified as a grade III river, offering a mix of gentle stretches and exciting white water rapids. As you raft for 3-4 hours each day with our experienced rafting team, you'll be treated to stunning natural scenery that surrounds you.

You'll arrive at the put-in point near the Seti River, where the rafts are inflated, and a comprehensive safety briefing is provided. Within 20 minutes of floating, you'll encounter the first Grade 2 rapid, which adds an element of excitement to your journey. As you continue, you'll enter a picturesque jungle corridor, where you can unwind and explore the narrow valley adorned with hanging vegetation and vibrant birdlife.

Lunch will be served on a sandy beach, offering you an opportunity to relax before encountering more Grade 2 rapids. The sight of the Sarang Ghat bridge serves as a reminder to fasten your life jacket buckles as you navigate a thrilling Grade 2+ rapid.

Day 9: Rafting and transfer to Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge

After breakfast and packing up, we set off from camp at approximately 9:30 am. This day is dedicated to exploring, bird-watching, photography, and learning about the local culture. As we make our way, a delicious lunch will be served en-route, ensuring you enjoy a balanced and flavorful meal. The adventure continues with an exhilarating encounter with Grade 2+ rapids, leading us to the confluence of Trisuli River. From there, a short float trip takes us to the take-out point at Gai Ghat.

From the rafting pick-up point it’s only a two hour drive to our next destination, Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge (a sister company of Mountain Travel Nepal). We recommend a leisurely day by the pool followed by a late afternoon stroll to the Narayani River with our resident elephants for sun downers.

Day 10 - 11: Jungle Activities and Overnight at the lodge

For the next couple of days enjoy all the safari and elephant activities on offer at the lodge. This includes spending a full day with the elephants, immersed in their daily routines and walking alongside them in the jungle.

Next day prepare for a river safari (boating) on the Narayani River. Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of birdlife and wildlife. Top of the list is the endangered fish-eating Gharial crocodile and its more sinister relative, the Marsh-Mugger.

Later in the afternoon meet with our naturalist for a jeep safari in the national park to get a taste of the jungle. During the safari you will encounter wildlife such as different species deer, birds, monkeys, and the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, and hopefully the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger.

Day 12: Fly to Kathmandu and overnight in Bhaktapur or cultural places

After breakfast we transfer to Bharatpur airport and fly to Kathmandu. From here our staff will take you to your hotel and you may spend the rest of the day at leisure or maybe for some last minute shopping or cultural heritage tour.
