Bhutan Tour Overview

Bhutan is renowned for its sustainable tourism approach, which carefully regulates visitor numbers to safeguard its cultural heritage and pristine environment. Traveling through this mystical land offers a remarkable mix of age-old traditions and subtle modern influences, spirituality interwoven with everyday life, and a national ethos rooted in Gross National Happiness. Whether hiking across untouched Himalayan landscapes, discovering centuries-old monasteries and fortresses, or engaging with the warm and hospitable Bhutanese people, a journey to Bhutan promises to be both inspiring and transformative.

Bhutan, often quoted as the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon, is a secluded gem in the heart of the Eastern Himalayas. After remaining isolated for centuries, the nation has only recently opened its doors to the outside world. With a population of around 700,000 and an area similar to Switzerland, Bhutan is unique as the only Mahayana Buddhist country in the world. Its pristine environment and rich biodiversity remain protected, deeply tied to Buddhist values that emphasize respect for all forms of life.

This self-reliant kingdom has never been colonized and, for much of its history, maintained minimal interaction with other nations. Buddhism first took root here in the 8th century, brought by the revered Padmasambhava, or Guru Rinpoche, who introduced the Tantric Buddhist tradition. A pivotal chapter in Bhutan’s history unfolded in 1616 when Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the esteemed leader of the Drukpa school of Mahayana Buddhism, arrived. His leadership unified the nation and laid the groundwork for Bhutan’s distinct governance system and cultural identity, which endure to this day.

Best Time To Travel Bhutan

The best season to visit Nepal and Bhutan is in the spring (March to May), fall (September to November), and early winter (December). Days throughout these months are the ideal temperature—not too hot or too chilly. In the autumn and early winter, the mornings and evenings may be a touch cool.
