Boudhanath stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site listed in 1979 and has become the common monument of the people all over the world. The stupa stands as a symbol of Buddhist faith and culture, attracting pilgrims and tourists from around the globe. Boudhanath's origins trace back to the 5th century, making it over 1500 years old. It is believed to enshrine the remains of Kassapa Buddha, an earlier incarnation of Siddhartha Gautama. The area around the stupa is bustling with activities as devotees and tourists walk in a clockwise direction around the stupa. The main Buddhist Destination of Nepal are Boudha Stupa, Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha), Swoyambhunath (monkey temple), Namo Buddha and Pharping of Kathmandu (where Guru Rinpoche, a buddhist master Padmasambhava mediated and got Enlightenment at Asura Cave).
Surrounding Boudhanath is a vibrant community of Tibetan refugees who fled their homeland in the 1950s. This community has preserved Tibetan Buddhist culture, making the area a cultural hub filled with monasteries, temples, Thanka paintings, souvenir shops and traditional Tibetan eateries. Visitors can explore Tibetan art, handicrafts, and rituals and the monasteries and park around. There are plenty of rooftop restaurants where you can admire the spectacular views of the stupa and try out delicious popular Tibetan cuisines MoMo (dumplings), Thukpa (noodle soup) or Laphing.
